Designing A Home Addition
A home addition is a serious investment. Whether it’s a small expansion or an entire top to bottom addition, the process requires zoning assessments, site plan approvals, design and construction. The good news is that at Stephanie Fox Architecture we can take care of all of these steps however, as the homeowner it’s important to take the following into consideration:
Your Budget
Before work even begins you must determine your budget. Even with a modest budget, you can increase your home’s value with some creativity, which is where we come in! As your architect we can design an addition that fits your needs, while staying within your budget. A home addition such as adding an extra bedroom, increasing the space in the living room or extending the master bedroom can be stunning and yield considerable returns on your investment.
Your Land
Remember that a home addition will take up space, which is why we’ll provide you with a realistic picture of how your vision will affect your land space. Ask yourself how much of the yard are you willing to sacrifice for more living space and consider how a prospective buyer would feel about the change. Depending on your landscape, it may or may not be a huge issue, but is always an important consideration before any construction begins.
Your Design
Nothing looks worse than a sleek new addition slapped haphazardly onto a dated exterior. Even a fantastic new room won’t look appealing when the rest of the house doesn’t match. As your professional architect it’s our job to design an addition that seamlessly flows into your existing home. However, if you have an old home your current exterior may need some enhancements and cosmetic work to make your addition look even more natural.
